Clara Jane Pullen died unexpectedly August 7, 1972, at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa.

She was 50 years of age.

She was born October 22, 1921 at Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jess M. Smith of Sloan who preceded her in death. She was married to Malden H. Pullen June 21, 1939 at Whiting, Iowa. She graduated from Sloan High School then lived her married life in Whiting. She was a nurses aid at St. Joseph Hospital for years.

Clara Jane was one of the first visitation workers for the Western Central Development Corporation. Later she became director of the commission. At the time of her death she served as a Monona County Nutrition Aid. She showed her love for others by giving of her time, effort and self. She was a member of the. Congregational United Church of Christ of Whiting, the First Congregational Women's Fellowship and the Congenial Country Club.

Survivors are her husband, Malden, one son, Gail Malden Pullen of Sloan; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Black (Janice) of Cupertino, California and Mrs. Fred Johnson (Linda) of Sloan; 8 grandchildren; one brother, Robert. D. Smith of Green Brea, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. Arthur Beem (Irene) of Hornick, Mrs. Leonard Swanson (Leora) of Moville, Mrs. Edwin Irwin, (LaVonne) of Tucson: Arizona, Mrs. Don Pullen (Harriet) of Sheffield, Iowa and Mrs. Arnold Shaefer.

Services were held at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, at Whiting at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 9, 1972 with Rev. Thomas L. Guenther, officiating. Mrs. Nancy Brenden, organist, accompanied George Brenden, vocalist.

Bearers were Wayne Petersen, John Scott, M. J. Whiting, Jr., Fred Ping, Robert Rodman and Arnold Brenden.

Honorary bearers were Lester Shively and Herbert Pike.

Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home of Whiting, Iowa.
