ONAWA, Iowa --- Lawrence Propst, 76, of Onawa died Sunday at an Onawa hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reformed Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in Onawa. The Rev. Charles Holben and the Rev. Mitchell Jurgens will officiate. Burial will be in Onawa City Cemetery under direction of the Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa.

Mr. Propst was born Nov. 1, 1901, in Condon, Ore. He married Ethel Burnham June 9, 1924, in Independence, Mo. He graduated from Graceland College in Lamoni Simpson College in Indianola and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

He was a school administrator in Manilla for eight years, in Rodman for nine years, in Yale for two years, in Des Moines for six years and in Clearfield for six years before retiring in 1972.

Mr. Propst had been a resident of Onawa since July. 1977.

He was a member of Reformed Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Lions Club at Clearfield National Educators Association, Iowa State Education Association, Iowa School Administrators Association, Beta Beta Beta Fraternity and Kappa Delta Phi Fraternity. He was a past master of Golden Leaf Masonic Lodge No. 595 and past worthy patron of Eastern Star Lodge, both at Manilla.

Survivors include the widow; a daugher, Mrs. Charles (Jacquelyn) Girdner of Onawa; a son, Lawrence of Council Bluffs; two brothers, Harry of Denver, Colo., and Lester of Stockbridge, Mich.; and three sisters, Mrs. Rose Shakespeare of Lamoni, Mrs. Willis ( Ellen) Hoover of Shenandoah and Mrs. Kenneth (Nina) Hartley of Scottsdale, Ariz.
