Mabel Irene was born on April 30, 1924, at the home place in rural Albaton, to Carl and Edna (Johnson) Anderson. She married D. Kendall Hunter on April 9, 1943, at Dakota City, Nebraska. Kendall passed away September 20, 2002. They had one daughter, Janice Molle Welsh, who passed away in 2013.

Mabel attended country school in Albaton and High School in Whiting, Iowa. She helped her husband on the farm, packing corn, and hauling grain to town. She mowed the lawn with her John Deere mower until last year. She remained active and was known for her egg coffee at church, and helping in the kitchen. She enjoyed winning at the casino, meeting friends there, and eating out. She was a history buff of the area history, particularly the Albaton area. She was a frequent visitor to the cemetery to look up information. Mabel loved attending the Hunter/Gerking family reunions. She was an avid crafter, belonged to the Sioux City Crafters Club and enjoyed making many sets of beaded Christmas bell lights. She also made several jeweled Christmas trees on velvet. You would always see a puzzle being put together on a table in her home. Mabel was a long-time member of a local birthday club. Mabel enjoyed her coffee, a good piece of home-made pie, and also popcorn. She and Kendall enjoyed camping with her daughter and her family, and fishing in the years past.

Cody Molle of Streeter, North Dakota; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Dustin, and Natasha; four brothers-in-law, George Hunter of Sloan, Iowa, Lowell (Joyce) Hunter of Falls Church, Virginia, David Hunter of California, and Everett Hackett of Bartelsville, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Mary Hunter of Sioux City, Iowa and Virginia Hunter of California; and many nieces and nephews in the area.
