Barbara Jo Ponce, 58, of Anamosa, IA, formerly of Castana, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at her residence.

Barbara was born in Onawa on January 31, 1949, the daughter of Othie and Darlyne Davis Leisinger. She grew up in the Castana area and graduated from Maple Valley High School in 1967. She worked at various jobs, including five years at Gateway in Sioux City, legal secretary in Sioux City, sold Avon products, ran the Castana Café for two years before her health failed. She loved to do puzzle games, read to her granddaughters, and started a gum wrapper chain as a child and continued with the chain as long as her health permitted.

Barbara had lived in Castana, Pella, IA, for five years and the past year in Anamosa with her daughter. Barbara was married to Jose Ponce for 10 years.

She is survived by her daughter and husband, Sabrina and David Peasley of Anamosa; two granddaughters, Jaiden and Paige; her mother, Darlyne Leisinger of Onawa; sister, Connie Leisinger of Castana; two brothers, Ed Leisinger of Onawa and Dennis and wife Debbie Leisinger of Norfolk, NE.

She was preceded in death by her father, Othie, son Arlo, and sister Linda Harvey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at the Castana Community Church in Castana, with Pastor Linda Boggs officiating.

The organist was Patsy Petersen and the CD selections were "Softly As I Leave You" and "Amazing Grace".

Casket bearers were Travis Harvey, Clint Leisinger, Chris Pierce, Eric Peters, Chris Leisinger and Jerret Utterback.

Interment was in the St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa
