MAPLETON MAN ENDS OWN LIFE

Mapleton, Ia.— (Special) — Elmer Henry, 60, ended many years of ill health Saturday morning when he took his own life by attaching a water hose to the exhaust pipe of his car and inhaling the fumes as he sat in the closed automobile.

Coroner S. N. Anderson and Sheriff Grover Rasmussen, both of Onawa, investigated and said there would be no inquest since death was the result of inhaling monoxide gas voluntarily.

Mr. Henry arose from his bed about 3 a. m, and went out on the porch to sit. His wife saw him on the porch and paid no attention to him at the time. She awakened about 5 a. m. and went to the home of a neighbor, Mrs. M. Wittemmier, finding her husband in the car about 45 minutes later.

Survivors include his widow, 4 sons, Earl, Ralph, Charles and Elmer, Jr., 2 daughters, Greta and Florence, and 2 brothers, William and Lee, all of Mapleton.

The body is in the Beyers funeral home.
