Elva Marten, age 81, of Loveland, Colorado, died
Sunday, February 25, 2001, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran cemetery, Denison, Iowa. Music for the service included "Rock of Ages", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Amazing Grace".

Elva Josephine Marten was born January 27, 1920 the daughter of Fred and Christine Bielfeldt Kruse at Denison, Iowa. She received her education in Denison and was graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1937.

She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on July 18, 1920 by Rev. Wm. Frese at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed in her Christian Faith there on April 9, 1933.

On June 16, 1941, Elva was united in marriage to Raymond William Marten at St. Joseph, Missouri. They made their home in Mapleton where Elva was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church serving as a Sunday School teacher assistant Superintendent of Sunday School and worked faithfully with Vacation Bible School. While in Mapleton she worked at Farmer's Coop, Ben Franklin, and Coast to Coast.

In 1964 Elva and Raymond moved to Loveland, Colorado. Elva was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and belonged to the Ladies Guild. Elva worked for J.C. Penney Company in Loveland, Colorado and Longmont, Colorado until her retirement in 1985.

Raymond died on September 2, 1989, and Elva continued to make her home in Loveland.

In addition to her parents and husband Raymond, Elva was preceded in death by a sister, Inez Barnes, a brother, Vern Kruse and a nephew, Thomas Barnes.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her sister, Irene Bohlmann of Denison, Iowa; nephew, Verdean Kruse and his wife, Linda of Ida Grove, Iowa; niece, Jean Warren and her husband, Delmar of Liberty, Missouri; brother-in-law, Bud Barnes of Denison, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Helen Wettengel of Texas, Alvera Probopiak of Florida, and Opal Kruse of Nebraska; grand-nephews, Carl Warren, Todd Kruse and Troy Kruse, other relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Wm. Ullrich, Emil Bielfeldt and Ray Else.

Casket bearers were Valgene Kruse, Glen Bielfeldt, James Else, Troy Kruse, Verdean Kruse and Carl Warren.
