Services held for Ute resident March 1

Jack Carlson, age 67 of Ute, Iowa, died Monday, February 26, 2001, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1 at Ute Christian Church, Ute, Iowa, with Pastor Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post #442 and VFW Post 5605, Ute, Iowa, with Eldon Teut commander. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Ute Christian Church.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Jack was born September 26, 1933 at Charter Oak, Iowa, the son of John and Violet (Reynolds) Carlson. He attended school at Ute. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was married to Doris Barber. He married Bonnie Phipps May 4, 1986.

He was employed at IBP at Denison, Iowa a number of years and later retired from Marx Truck Line.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Gerry Dudley of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Becky and Donny Seelow of Pacific, Washington; three sons and their wives, John and Patty of Warnes Robbins, Georgia, Roger and Shirley of Auburn, Washington and Richard and Sheila of Millington, Tennessee; six step-sons and their wives, Jim and Cindy Phipps of Castana, Iowa, Pat and Ruth Phipps of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mike and Janie Phipps of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Rick and Nancy Phipps of Tampa, Florida, Russ and April Phipps of Tallassee, Alabama, and Buddy and Theresa Huntley of Charter Oak, Iowa; three step-daughters and their husbands, Helen and Larry Riley of Yukon, Oklahoma, Phyllis and Dale Boeck of Wellington, Colorado and Rhonda and Bernard Jester of Bivins, Texas; two sisters, Alice Thompson of Sioux City and Nilmah and her husband, Duane Thompson of Ute, Iowa; three brothers, Joe and his wife, Kathy Carlson of Ute, Norman of Ute and Albin and his wife, Mary Lou of Cherokee, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Lyle Knutson of Sioux City; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James; a sister, Garnet; a step-son, Dave Phipps; a sister-in-law, Sandra; a grandson, Keith Meseck and two step-grandsons.
