Fairbanks resident, Mary J. Loomis, 69, died Wednesday, February 21st, 2001 at the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Mary Jane Loomis was born August 31st, 1931 to Thomas and August Loomis in Onawa, Iowa where she was raised and graduated from Onawa High School now known as West Monona High School. She attended Iowa University in Iowa City, furthering her education by studying to be a writer. Mary had raised her children in Omaha, Nebraska before she moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1980. She was employed with the Westmark Hotel working as a housekeeper until retiring in 1997. Mary was a voracious writer and was well known for whipping out crossword puzzles left and right. According to the family; "Mary was a strong willed, independent woman who set a phenomenal example of a real work ethic for her children. Mary was loved deeply and will be missed by her friends and family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Teel of
Kempner, TX; son, Howard Loomis of Fort Carson, CO; sisters, Patricia Salter of Phoenix, AZ and Joyce Harris of Moorhead, IA; brother, Tom Loomis of Onawa, IA; grandson, Phillip Morris of Kempner, TX; granddaughters, Teresa Morris of Copperas, Cove, Tx. and Sara Loomis of Casa Grande, Az. and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will he held in Moorhead, Iowa at a future date. Interment will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery in Moorhead, Iowa. Arrangements were made by the Fairbanks Funeral Home.
