Ariel "Bus" Uhl, age 77 of Mapleton died Tuesday, June 19, 1990, in a Sioux City hospital.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Friday in St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton with the Rev. Stephen Root officiating. Burial was in Little Sioux Cemetery at Smithland. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. in Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mr. Uhl was born May 11, 1913, to Clarence and Flora (Schoening) Uhl in rural Mapleton and was a lifelong Mapleton resident. He married Muriel V. Stratton March 12, 1935, in Oto. He was a mechanic for Barry Collins Ford Motor from 1941 until 1958. He then was owner and operator of Bus Uhl Repair Shop in Mapleton from 1958 until 1977, when he retired. He also serviced and drove the Maple Valley School bus for 20 years.
Mr. Uhl was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Mapleton Camping Club and Mapleton Fire Department for many years. He served as a Monona County special deputy and was active in Cub and Boy Scouting in Mapleton.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Keith Uhl and his wife, Nancy of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Alice Bush of St. Peters, Missouri; a sister, Mrs. Louise Davis of Mapleton; two brothers and their wives, Rex and Eileen Uhl of Burlingame, California and Donald and Gloria Uhl of Pasco, Washington; six grandchildren, Elizabeth and Elliot Uhl, Scott Bush, Jeanette Milner, and Todd and Jenni Bush; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Erin Bush and Dana Bush.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Laurit Uhl.
Pallbearers were John Zediker, Jerry Bumstead, Leo Dean, Grant Scoles, Byron Edgington and Martin Thies.
