Ethel M. Uhl, 97, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville, MO. She was born November 13, 1905, on the family farm near Ticonic, Iowa, the daughter of John and Dora Newman. She married Don Mann and they lived in Onawa throughout their married life where they raised their only child, Duane (Pete).

Ethel was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, the DAR and Royal Neighbors. Don preceded Ethel in death in 1943 and in 1952, she married Carl A. Uhl. They moved to Yankton, South, Dakota where they owned a saddle shop and were members of the local saddle club. They soon moved to Camdenton, MO and later Sedalia, MO to be near their son and daughter-in-law, Aggie (Torticill) and their nine grandchildren. In the. late 60,s Carl and Ethel returned to Onawa. They retired and lived at Center Heights until, following Carl's death, Ethel eventually moved to Harrisonville, MO to be near her son and daughter-in-law, Joann.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands; a brother Otis Newman; and two sisters Ruth Kama and Wilma Jean Steward; her beloved son, Duane J. "Pete" Mann, in 2002; and a great-grandson, Jacob Mann, in June 2003.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Joann Mann; nine married grandchildren, Kathy and Richard Palmer, Duane and Terri Mann, Don and Monica Mann, Michael
and Connie Mann, David and Kelly Mann, Regina and Dale Harden, Peggy and Jim Burr, Kelly and Bob Derringer and Lorie and John Burr; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Agnes Mann; and special nieces,
Carolyn Green, Bonnie Coleman and Diane Steward.

She also leaves many special friends at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville.

The family shares memories of Grandma gardening, traveling,cooking, and crocheting; but most of all a Grandma who squeezed us tight.
