HORNICK, Iowa -- Dale Uhl, 62, of Hornick died of cancer Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, in Sioux City.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dan Gunther officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service Saturday, with a rosary led by his oldest grandchildren at 10 a.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Dale Uhl was born to Loyde Andrew and Hildegard Elizabeth (Klein) Uhl on July 31, 1944, in Sioux City. He was raised in rural Mapleton, Iowa, and graduated from Maple Valley High School with the class of 1962. He continued his education at Morningside College in Sioux City.

On Oct. 12, 1963, he was united in marriage to Ann Cheryl Hughes of Mapleton. The couple moved to North Platte, Neb., for a year, then returned to Iowa to farm outside of Smithland, Iowa. They lived in their present home for 40 years. He was a loss control manager at Terra Industries and Land-O-Lakes until his retirement. He then began driving the bus and greeting donors for the Siouxland Blood Bank.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He also belonged to The Fertilizer Institute, the National Safety Council and was involved with youth as a 4-H leader.

Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ann of Hornick; a son and his wife, Todd Edward and Debbie Uhl of Mason City, Iowa, and their children, Rebecca Lynn and Laura Ann; two daughters, Tammy Rae Flannery of Sioux City and her children, Katie, Mike and Chris, and Louise Marguerite Cook of Cumming, Ga.; two brothers, Dean Uhl of Mapleton, Iowa, and Jack Steinhoff of Hornick who was a true brother of his heart and was always there for Dale for as long as can be remembered; a sister, Jeanne Gray of Janesville, Wis.; and a very special beloved sister-in-law, Linda Kraft of Lake View, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Joyce Carol.

Pallbearers will be John and Julie Kraft, Jack and Janet Steinhoff, Roger Ambroz, Judy Lamprecht, Renee Ross and Rachael Partridge.
