9 April 2014Carrie "Helen" Swenson, 95, of Moorhead, Iowa died Thursday, April 03, 2014 at the Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Iowa with Pastor Carla Johnsen, officiating. Burial will be in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 7, 2014 with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Carrie Helen was born April 13, 1918 in Soldier, Iowa the daughter of Einar and Annette (Foss) Haugen. She was raised in the Dunlap, Iowa area and moved to Soldier, Iowa as a teenager. She stayed with her Uncle Adolph and Aunt Ida Swenson in Soldier, and graduated from Soldier High School.
Helen and Harold Swenson were united in marriage on August 30, 1940 in Soldier, Iowa. They lived and raised their family on a farm near Moorhead, Iowa. Harold passed away February 11, 1995. Helen moved to Elm Crest Retirement Community, Harlan, Iowa in 2006.
Helen was a homemaker and loved raising her children, and spending time with family. She enjoyed embroidering, playing cards, cooking, making lefse, and watching sports on television. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Iowa where she served on the Ladies Aid Group.
Helen in survived by her children, Annette (Brad) Darby of St. Augustine, Florida, Barbara (Jon) Ludwig of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Bernie (Peggy) Swenson of Panama, Iowa; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and all of her brothers and sisters.
