Graveside Services Held For Former Resident

Graveside services were held for former Soldier resident, Lyle Johnson as friends and family gathered May 29 at St. Clair Cemetery at Ute where his ashes were interned.

Relatives from Chico, CA, Poulsbo, WA, Dallas, TX, Lincoln City and Pendleton, OR, Omaha, Norfolk, Jackson, and Ponca, NE and neighboring Iowa towns attended.

Lyle passed away November 12, 2004 at Pendleton, OR, where he had lived for 34 years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, a son and
daughter-in-law, Francis and Sandy Johnson of Yankton, SD and a daughter Kathleen of Lincoln City, OR, three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Violet Ulmer of Dunlap, IA.

Following the service a Family Reunion gathering was hosted for 60 at Richard and Jean Ulmer's River-place Farm at Soldier. The afternoon was spent visiting and looking at photo albums from yester year and taking more pictures.

Birthday cake for Violet Ulmer of Dunlap and Helen Johnson of Pendleton, OR. was served and the traditional "Happy Birthday Song" was sung. They are both 85 years young this month.
