5 April 2014SERGEANT BLUFF | David Thomas Smith, 67, of Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Sergeant Bluff, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, in Surprise.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. John Sears, officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
David Thomas Smith was born in Onawa, on May 14, 1946, the son of Raymond "Curly" Smith and Edna Mae (Kirk) Smith. He grew up and attended school in Onawa.
David and Sharon Reding were united in marriage on Sept. 27, 1969 in St. Joe, Iowa. David worked for Lakin Farms and Shinrone Farms. He was a contractor for the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years, until his retirement in 2010.
David loved spending time with his family, especially his wife, kids, and grandkids. He also enjoyed visiting with people. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and enjoy life. David loved everything about classic cars, and he loved to use his mechanical skills every chance he could get.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sharon Smith of Surprise; daughters, Tammy (Douglas) Simpson of Omaha, and Tracy (Michael) Chentfant of Surprise; grandchildren, Emily and Grace Simpson and Craig and Natalie Chentfant; brothers, Larry Smith of Omaha, Robert "Bob" Smith of Castana, Iowa, and Dennis (Sue) Smith of Castana; a sister, Sue Smith of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Rosalee Evanson of Buford, Ga.; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Terry and Dean Smith; and a sister-in-law, Donna Smith.
Memorial donations in David’s memory may be made to the family.
