Edward "Ed" Black, 77, of Sloan, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Community Church of Christ in Sloan, IA with Rev. Reva B. Karstens officiating. Burial will be in the Whiting City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Army. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 14, 2014 at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, IA.

Edward Lee Black was born October 18, 1936 in Blencoe, IA the son of Homer E. and Lucile (Hime) Black. He attended school in Onawa, IA and graduated in 1956.

Ed and Janice Marie Pullen were united in marriage on June 21, 1959 in Whiting, IA. Five children were born to this union. Ed served with the United States Army from October 1956 to October 1962.

He loved spending time with all of his family, and especially the love of his life, Janice. Ed enjoyed tinkering with all things, and had a talent of using his hands to repair and restore all types of items. He also enjoyed puzzles, raising sheep, and helping his farming neighbors and friends.

Ed is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Janice Marie (Pullen) Black of Sloan, IA; his children; Kim (Mike) Kimball of Uralla, NSW, Australia, Thomas E. Black of San Jose, CA, Mary Turco of San Jose, CA, Malden Scott and (Kathleen) Black of Los Banos, CA, and Leah (David) Smith of Seattle, WA; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Dick (Mary Jo) Black of Onawa, IA; sisters, Darlene (Edward) Ferris of Blair, NE, Betty (Leland) Hileman of San Jose, CA, and Donna (Ralph) Wickersham of Turin, IA

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Lucile; his brothers, Robert Black, Eugene Black, and Donald Black.
