SOLDIER, Iowa | Lyle A. "Bill" Carritt, 87, of Soldier, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Soldier Lutheran Church, with Pastor Joel Gueningsman officiating. Burial will be in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are with Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Lyle was born Sept. 5, 1926, in rural Soldier, the son of Lynn Joseph and Grace Alma (Swenson) Carritt. He was raised in the Soldier area and graduated from Soldier High School. He served with the United States Army from 1955 to 1956.

He farmed in the Soldier area, retiring in 2012.

He enjoyed dogs, cats, cattle, hogs, calves and crop farming.

Lyle was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church, where he was baptized June 30, 1927, and confirmed in September 1941.

Survivors include a sister, Vivian Sandvold of Moorhead, Iowa; a brother, Gordon (Lillian) Carritt of Ute, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Jane (Claire) Sandvold; and a brother-in-law, Olaf Sandvold.
