ELLEN M. GRAY

Ellen M. Gray, 76, Onawa, Iowa, died suddenly Monday, January 11, 1988, at her home in Onawa.

She was born June 11, 1911, at Kennebec, Iowa, to David E. and Eva Lou (Snyder) Jones. On May 19, 1928, she married Alfred Thomas Gray at the First Christian Church in Onawa. They farmed near Hornick, Iowa, before moving to Onawa in 1972. She worked for a number of years at the McElwain Grocery Store in Blencoe. Mr. Gray died August 3, 1980, at Burgess Memorial hospital in Onawa. She helped raise two grandsons, Bill and Steve.

She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was a member of the Church Council and Circle 2, Royal Neighbors of America and numerous card clubs in the area.

Survivors include: one daughter, Marilyn Otterbeck, of Logan, Ia.; one son, Tommy Gray of Onawa; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Ruby; one son, Charles James; five brothers, George, David, Harold, Buck and Doc; and one sister, Alma.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 1988, at the First Christian Church in Onawa with Rev. Jerry Quandt and Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, the organist, accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson, in the selections “In the Garden” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”.

Bearers were Rex A. Persinger, Steve Hanson, Wilbur Phipps, Dwight Lamb, Cole B. Shatswell and Harold Phipps.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
