MARY MARTHA FITZHUGH

Mary Martha Fitzhugh, 74 Onawa, Iowa, died Monday, January 11, 1988, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa.

She was born December 26, 1913, at Arrow Rock, Missouri, to Samuel Preston and Will Ella (Lawless) Eades. On August 25, 1934, she married Ralph L. “Brandy” Fitzhugh at Marshall, Missouri. They came to Onawa from Nebraska City, Nebraska in October 1959. Mr. Fitzhugh died May 11, 1972, at Onawa, Iowa.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women, the Queen Esther Chapter O.E.S. #222, Onawa Chapter D.A.R., the Onawa Country Club and the Kanduettes, Sioux City.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Virginia Emmerson, Arrow Rock, Mo.; two nephews, Michael Draper of San Jose, Calif. and Jack Green of Chicago, Ill.; two great nephews, Todd and Jason; and one great niece, Vanessa.

She was preceded in death by parents; her husband; two sisters, Pauline McClellen in 1976 and Mildred Draper in 1954.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 1988, at the United Methodist Church in Onawa with Rev. David Wagner officiating. The organist, Mrs. Robert Oehler, played “How Great Thou Art” and accompanied the congregation in singing the selection “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”.

Bearers were Richard Ping, Clifford Young, Larry Taylor, Don Reed, Jack Green and Charles Persinger.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
