DOROTHY C. LEIGH

Dorothy C. Leigh, 82, of Gladstone, Missouri, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, died Saturday, January 9, 1988, in a Kansas City, Missouri, hospital after a long illness.

She was born April 27, 1905, in Rockford, Illinois, to Axel and Martha (Kjellgren) Ekblade. She graduated from Rockford High School and attended Rockford Women’s College for two years. She taught second grade for eight years prior to her marriage to H. Clifford Leigh on June 26, 1933, at Rockford. The couple moved to Onawa in 1942. He died July 18, 1973, at Onawa. She had been a resident of Gladstone, Missouri, for one year.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational and the Women’s Pilgrim Fellowship of the church. She sang in the church choir and sang solos sometimes. She was a charter member of the Onawa Country Club.

Survivors include two sons, James T. of Kansas City, Mo. and John C. “Jack” of Wall Walla, Wash.; one daughter, Mrs. Emmet (Jane) Willard of Harpers Ferry, W. Va.; and 7 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and one brother.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 1988, at the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Louis A. Aitken officiating. Mrs. Robert Oehler, the organist, accompanied the soloist, Steven Johnson, who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Bearers were her grandchildren, Michael Leigh, Jeffrey Leigh, Mark Leigh, Virginia Minton, Barbara Minton, Laura Leigh and Scott Leigh.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
