RAYMOND “RAY” GOEHRING

Raymond “Ray” Goehring, 82, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, January 1, 1988, in Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa, of a sudden Illness.

He was born November 24, 1905, near Delmont, South Dakota, to Michael and Katherina (Serr) Goehring. He was one of 13 children. On October 13, 1927, he married Molly Steinke at Sioux City. The couple farmed near Delmont, South Dakota, moving to Onawa in 1945 where he was the Massey Harris Farm Equipment Dealer and also the DeSoto Plymouth Dealer. They moved to Sioux City in 1953 where he operated a D-X Station for many years and then worked part-time at Johnson Hardware until retirement. Mrs. Goehring died November 2, 1982, in Sioux City. In May 1986, he moved to Sunrise Manor where he resided until August 1987, when he moved back to Onawa.

While in Sioux City, he was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and, since August, was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa.

Survivors include: one son, Jule Vaughn of Sioux City; one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Donna Rae) Hyatt of Onawa; two brothers, Alvin of Delmont, S.D. and Eugene of Armour, S.D.; one sister, Martha Kaufman of Salem, Ore.; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Molly; seven brothers; and two sisters.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 1988, at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa with Rev. Quentin Quanbeck officiating. Mrs. Syril Brown, the organist, accompanied the congregation in singing “Abide with Me” and “Rock of Ages”.

Bearers were Lynn Riley, Gordon Hinkel, Clifford Young, Harold Johnston, Lyle Lambert and Delbert Heisterkamp.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
