MRS. E. P. DOROTHY PASSED AWAY DEC 24, AT HOME OF HER DAUGHTER MRS. HARVE TAYLOR - She Came to Monona County in the Early Seventies - Funeral Services Were Held on Monday

Phoebe Booher was born at Ottumwa, Wapello, Iowa, October 31, 1850 and died at Onawa, Monona, Iowa December 24, 1938, at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 24 days.

She was the daughter of Peter Henry Booher and Hannah Amanda (Danford) Booher.
When a small girl her parents moved to Blakesburg, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood. In the early seventies she moved with her parents to Monona County and was one of the early pioneers of the St. Clair Township. She was married to E. P. Dorothy on March 28, 1878.

Six children were born: Mrs. Bessie Larson, Ute, Iowa; Mrs. Minnie Taylor, Onawa, Iowa; Ruey, who passed away at the age of one and a half years; James Porter Dorothy, Ute, Iowa, Gemima, who died at the age of three, Mark Dorothy, of Ames, Iowa.

Mrs. Dorothy united with the Christian church in Ute, Iowa, in 1893. She was a charter member of the society and was the last living member of that group. Her steadfast faith remained throughout the years and has ben a benediction to all who knew her. She was a member of the O. E. S. at Ute, Iowa.

Since the death of her husband in March 1918, she has spent the greater art of her time at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harv Taylor in Onawa.

On Sunday she became suddenly ill and passed away at 11 o'clock. She leaves to mourn her passing, Mrs. Bessie Larson, Mrs. Minnie Taylor, J. Porter Dorothy, Mark Dorothy and eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister Catherine Reynolds, of Lincoln, Nebraska, besides many relatives and friends.

Shall I doubt my father's mercy
Shall I think of death as doom
Or the stepping o'er the threshold
To a bigger, brighter room.
Shall I sit enthroned in gloom;
When we know our loved one is happy,
Waiting in another room.

Short funeral services were held here on Monday at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Taylor. Mrs. Dorothy Ferris sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and Rev. Stauffer offered prayer. The funeral party then journeyed to Ute, where regular services were held from the Christian church conducted by Rev. Wayne C. Stauffer, of the Onawa Methodist church. Burial was made in the St. Clair cemetery beside the remains of her departed husband.
