Mary Jo Green, 61

Funeral services for Mary Jo Green, 61, of Jefferson, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson, with a funeral luncheon for family and friends immediately following at St. Joseph's Parish Center. A private family burial will take place later at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Jefferson.

Friends may call at St. Joseph's Parish Center in Jefferson after 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011. Visitation with the family will be held Thursday at St. Joseph's Parish Center in Jefferson from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed with the Vigil for the Deceased at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Parish Center in Jefferson.

Mary Jo Green, age 61, of Jefferson, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, surrounded by her family.

Mary Jo was born July 1, 1949, to George and Marcella Schleis of Mapleton, Ia. She was united in marriage to John Green on August 5, 1972. The couple lived in Omaha, Ne; Auburn, Ne; Sioux City, IA; and Council Bluffs, Ia. before settling in Jefferson.

Mary Jo worked as an X-ray tech in Sioux City, Omaha, and Jefferson.

Always wanting to advance her skills, she passed her Mammogram Boards, CT Boards, and went back to school and earned her Bachelor's Degree from Buena Vista University. Later in her career she taught radiology to students attending Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Mary Jo was very involved in St. Joseph's church. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Guild, taught CCD at St. Joseph's, and was a very active and involved parent to her five children, never missing any of their many activities, games, or events. Mary Jo was devoted to her family, enjoyed cooking and watching the Food Network, scoured garage sales for the best find, and baked the world's best cookies. Mary Jo's final act of generosity was her participation in the Iowa Donor's Network.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband of 39 years John; their children Lisa (Mark Leiknes) of Richfield, MN; John of Boone, IA; David (Lindsey) of Waconia, MN; Sarah of Portsmouth, VA; and Dan of Iowa City, IA; her very special grandchildren Brenna, Aidan, and Chase Green and Lucy and Brody Leiknes; her four siblings: Donald (Carolyn) Schleis of Danbury, IA; Ronald Schleis, David Schleis, and Jan (Rick Renken) Brinks, all of Mapleton, IA; her Aunt Loretta; cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
