Dennis Clemon, 54, Soldier, Iowa, died suddenly Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa.

Dennis was born August 18, 1953 at Denison, Iowa, the son of Gordon Bruce and Ruth Amanda (Jensen) Clemon. He was a lifelong resident of Soldier and attended East Monona School.

He married Vicky VanNess September 26, 1975 at Soldier Lutheran Church and the couple made their home at Soldier. Dennis was employed with the Monona County Road Department in 1973 and currently was road foreman.

He was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. Dennis also served on the Soldier Town Council many years. He loved woodworking and was an avid craftsman.

Survivors include his wife, Vicky of Soldier, IA; a step-son, Brent Pedersen and two grandchildren of Arlington, TX; his mother, Ruth Clemon of Soldier; two sisters, Barb and her husband Tony Johnson and Patti Miller of Soldier; a brother, Mike Clemon of Soldier; many nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Virginia VanNess of Moorhead, IA and a brother-in-law and his wife, David and Janice VanNess of Denison.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Clemon; a niece Amanda Clemon and his father-in-law, Darrel VanNess.

Funeral services were 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 27, 2007 at Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa with Pastor Carla Johnsen officiating. Music selections were "When I Get To Where I'm Going", the congregation singing "Amazing Grace" and "Peace In The Valley" with Darren Goslar, soloist. Jean Dommer was organist.

Burial was in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was 5:00-8:00 PM Sunday at the church-with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.

Casket bearers were Clint Clemon, Willie Gangestad, Chet Davis, Tim Delance, Jim Linton and Joe Weverka. Honorary bearers were active and retired members of the Monona County Secondary Road Department.
