Opal Ruth (Hundahl) Pape died Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa at the age of 86 years, eight months, and two days.

Opal Ruth was born December 20, 1920, to Lawrence & Katrina (Larsen) Hundahl near Little Sioux, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Blencoe High School. Opal married Chester Pape December 31, 1938, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple farmed near Ute, Woodbine, Pisgah, and Moorhead. Opal worked as a Tupperware dealer and at the McCue's Feed and Garden Center. She also provided child care for her great grandchildren as well as other children. She owned and operated the C & 0 Cafe in Pisgah until Chet's health started failing. Opal was a leader in, 4-H. She also helped with the Moorhead and Pisgah Head-start.

Opal was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead. She was also a member of the Pisgah Saddle Club. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, dancing, listening to country music. She loved babysitting, the holidays, and traveling with her family.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chester Pape; son, Terry; two sisters, Ellen Hundahl and Esther Vanness; and one brother Emil Hundahl.

She is survived by four daughters, Judy Kuhlman and her husband, Norman of Moorhead, Iowa; Nancy McCue and her husband, Gary of Arlington, Texas; Dixie Hagemann of Denison, Iowa; and Peggy Bothwell and her husband, Tom of Moorhead, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; two+ great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Vi (Hundahl) Cook of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Leila Pape of Pisgah, Iowa, Letha Huff of Pisgah, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Glenn Pape of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held in Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Iowa on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev Carla Johnsen officiating. Janice Smith accompanied Sam Johnson as he sang "The Old Rugged Cross; and "On Eagle's Wings" and Kylie Bothwell as she sang "Wind Beneath My Wings" and The Rose".

Pall Bearers were Todd Pratt, Ryan Brown, Duane Renz, Sr, Dennis Smith, Ron Armstrong, Dennis Marcum, Rick Gebeke and Duane Renz, Jr.

Honorary Pall bearers were the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead with arrangements by Fouts Funeral Home, Dunlap.
