E. Irene Hanson, 94, Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Little Sioux,Iowa died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa.

Irene was born February 27, 1913 at Moorhead, Iowa, the youngest child of Ole and Hulda (Moen) Engen. The family moved to Little Sioux, Iowa where Irene lived the most of her life.

She married Augustus "Doug" Hanson October 16, 1941 at Rock Port, Missouri and the couple farmed their Century farm near Little Sioux for over 57 years. After Doug's death, March 12, 1999, Irene entered Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a member of First Lutheran Church. Irene was an excellent homemaker. She loved to cook, bake cakes, garden and travel.

Survivors include nieces, Dorothy "Dolly" John of Missouri Valley, Peggy Berg of Plymouth, MN, Leone Benedickt of Dunlap, IA; nephews, Charles Hanson of Little Sioux and Kenneth Engen of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law, Eva Engen of Modal, IA, Nielsine Gehrke of Onawa; many great nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Doug, she was, preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, three nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2007 at First Lutheran Church at Missouri Valley, Iowa with Pastor Ray Smith officiating. Music selections were the congregation singing "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Abide With Me". Darren Goslar, soloist, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Genelle Riesland was organist.

Visitation was from 5:00 — 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Rush Family Care Service, Onawa. Burial was in Little Sioux Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Rogene, Terry and Robbie Pekarek, Michael and Russell Stanislav, Marvin Neill and John Allyn. Honorary bearers were Robin McClannahan, Gary Benjamin, Larry Nicholson, Brad Oglesby, Richard Dague, Chuck Hanson, Randy Dague and Fred Crofts.
