Dorothy was born April 19, 1912 in Turin, Iowa to Fred and Edna Rutledge.

She married Randall Robert Cartmill, June 1928 in Onawa, IA. They had three daughters, Hope, Barbara and Sandra.

They settled in La Mesa in 1941 and soon after America was at war. Dorothy opened her home to every marine from Iowa along with a couple of sailors and one lonely soldier.

Dottie was one of the in¬famous "Rosie the Riveters" at consolidated aircraft.

In 1944 Dottie started her bakery career at LaMesa Mart, Robinsons and Hamiltons. Finally becoming supervisor of all Food Basket Bakeries until she retired in 1974.

She was a member of College Ave. Baptist Church. Also involved in her sorority, Kappa Xi, and Retail Clerks Retiree UFG #135.

Dorothy was able to travel extensively. Her favorite trip was Hawaii prompting her to learn the Hula.

God blessed our mother with 20 more years of active life after a battle with cancer. She was a warm and loving person who delighted in her family.

Dorothy Marie Cartmill, 94, of Santee died March 7.

Survivors include her daughters, Hope Etchings and Sondra Warne of El Cajon and Barbara Raucci of Seattle; sister, Shirley Acevedo of California; brother, Orville Rutledge of Onawa, IA; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Randall.

Services were held at the Greenwood Mortuary in San Diego on March 14th with the Entombment at the Greenwood Bible Mausoleum.
