Don was born on June 7, 1926, in Onawa, the son of George and Anena (Sorenson) Ruth. Don grew up on the Ruth farm in Monona County and attended school in Whiting, Iowa.

He married Joyce Ankerstjerne in 1945. They spent nearly 50 years together and had five children. He farmed with his father and was a pioneer in using irrigation to improve yield on the Ruth farm. After his retirement, Don spent his summers on the Ruth farm, farming with his brother, Richard, and his nephew, Ryan. He wintered on Lake Okeechobee in Florida, where he loved to fish for bass.

Don is survived by his five children, Connie McCandless, Catherine Bryson, Celinas Althoff (aka Candace), Ronald Ruth and Randal Ruth; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; his sister, Evon Gibson; and brother, Richard Ruth.

Memorials may be given in Don's memory to the Whiting Athletic Booster Club, 606 West St., Whiting, IA 51063.
