SIOUX CITY | Alice S. Thompson, 84, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at her home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Township Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Alice was born on March 5, 1929, in Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of John and Violet (Reynolds) Carlson. She attended school in the Charter Oak and Ute area.

Alice married Lloyd Thompson on June 17, 1947, and had eight children. They later divorced. Over the years, Alice lived throughout the Siouxland area. She managed a cafe, waitressed and bartended at several establishments. She then worked at John Morrell and Floyd Valley Packing Plants, retiring in the early 1990s.

Alice was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club. She helped raise everyone’s children. Alice enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, puzzles and word books.

Survivors include her children, Connie and Wally Case, Marvin and Donette Thompson, Twila and Bill VanOsdel, Steven Thompson, Donald Thompson, Gloria Thompson, and Nancy and Rocky Duckett; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Norman Carlson and Albin and Mary Carlson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Alice; grandson, Chad Thompson; siblings, Garnet Knutson, Jack Carlson, Jimmy Carlson, Joseph Carlson and Nilmah Thompson.
