WILLIAM “BILL” HECK

William L. “Bill” Heck, 96, former Grant Center resident, died Sunday, November 29, 1987, at Princeton, Missouri.

He was born May 3, 1891, near Hawkins, Tennessee, to Stoke and Eliza (Aurk) Heck. On October 13, 1910, he married Maggie Myrtle Woodard. The couple moved to Iowa in 1914. They had lived in Charter Oak, Rodney and Grant Center before making their home with a son at Princeton, Missouri. He was a section foreman for Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, retiring about 1956.

Survivors include his wife, Maggie; three sons, Lee of Battle Creek, Ia., Orville of Princeton, Mo., and Harold of Lake Lillian, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Woodard of Whitehall, Ill., Mrs. Annie Woodard of Springfield, Ill. and Mrs. Flossie Downing of Hornick; fourteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 1987, in the United Church of Christ at Rodney, Iowa, with Rev. Gary DeGeest officiating. Mrs. Ellen Harbeck was the organist.

Active Bearers were Allen Heck, Junior Heck, David Ray Heck, Tom Heck, Perry Heck and William Eugene Heck. Honorary Bearers were Bobby Kolhs and Charles Gries.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa, with arrangements by the Willman Funeral Home, Rodney, Iowa.
