PAGE OOTEN

Page Ooten, 67, of Onawa, Iowa, died Saturday, December 5, 1987, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was born September 22, 1920, at Onawa, Iowa, to Page and Katie (Wright) Ooten, Sr. He attended school at Onawa. On January 6, 1940, he married Lenore Stanton at South Sioux City, Nebraska. She died December 13, 1976, in Omaha, Nebraska. During World War II, he was stationed at Guam with the U.S. Navy. He was shop foreman at the Ford Garage at Onawa. He operated his own repair service, and later was employed by Monona County as a heavy equipment mechanic until retiring in 1982. On September 9, 1977, he married Minnie Jobeun at Onawa.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa.

Survivors include: his wife, Minnie; one son, Clarence of St. Paul, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Janet) Holbrook and Mrs. Charles (Cathy) Brown, both of Onawa; one stepson, Jim Jobeun of Omaha, Nebr.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Jim (Sarah) Shook, of Onawa; three brothers, Clarence of Washington, Calvin of Portland, Ore., and LaVerne of Onawa; four sisters, Julia Martin of Whiting, Mrs. Ernest “Doc” (Agnes) Holsclaw, Genevieve Ooten and Dorothy Swesey, all of Onawa; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lenore; one brother, Jesse; and an infant sister.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 1987, at the first Christian Church at Onawa with Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. The organist, Mrs. Vince Phillips, played “In the Garden” and “Little Brown Church in the Vale”.

Bearers were Lowell Jenkins, Charlie Meadows, Donald Loomis, Harold Shook, Ted Grothe and Robert Barker.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
