STAFF SGT. DEAN L. FOLSOM

Staff Sgt. Dean L. Folsom, Salix, Iowa, died on October 31, 1987, in St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, following a long illness. Death came at the age of 51 years, 1 month and 30 days.

He was born at Onawa, Iowa, on September 1, 1936, the son of Edwin and Ethel (Bohme) Folsom. He moved with his family to Jefferson, South Dakota, at the age of one. Following graduation from Jefferson High School, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served for four years. He married Patricia Guinn, November 30, 1957, in Seattle, Washington. Following his discharge from the Navy, the couple made their home in the Salix area.

He presently was crew chief at the 185th Tactical Fighter Group Iowa Air National Guard at Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Salix; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Deborah) Johnson of Salix; four sons, David and Daniel, both of Castana, Delayne of Holly Springs, Ia. and Duane of Salix; seven grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Ethel Folsom of Whiting, Ia.; a brother Richard Sr. of Salix; and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Shirley) Hodges of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 1987, at the 185th Tactical Fighter Group Iowa Air National Guard at Sioux City, Iowa, with Chaplain Larry Handeland officiating.

Bearers were Lyle Davis, Ronald Moser, Robert Miller, Kurt Bultman, Donald Risdal and Bruce Johnson.

Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City with Military Graveside Rites by the 185th Tactical Fighter Group Iowa Air National Guard. Arrangements were by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
