VIOLA L. BUTLER

Viola L. Butler, 78, Onawa, Iowa, died Saturday, November 7, 1987, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa.

She was born May 7, 1909, at Blencoe, Iowa, to John and Anna (Johnson) Heller. She moved to Onawa as a young girl and graduated from Onawa High School. On January 14, 1928, she married Wayne Butler in Sioux City. The couple farmed in Turin for five years and in Holstein for another year before moving to Onawa where they continued farming. She had been the Deputy Monona County Clerk, a sales clerk with Ford’s Apparel at Onawa, a secretary and an Avon representative.

She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Church Circle, and of the Bridge and Canasta Clubs of Onawa.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Gloria Jean) Larsen of Marshalltown, Ia.; one daughter-in-law, Dorris Butler, Canton, Ga.; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard; and one sister, Alma Heller Thompson.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 1987, at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. The organist was Mrs. Vince Phillips and the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson sang “In the Garden” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Casket bearers were Joe Jackson, Don Reed, John Arndt, Carl Arndt, Maurice Arndt and Richard Arndt.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
