HELEN M. HARTIGAN

Helen M. Hartigan, 79, of Ute, Iowa, died Monday, November 2, 1987, at her home of an apparent heart attack.

Mrs. Hartigan, the former Helen M. Flynn, was born July 18, 1908, in Grant Township, near Rodney. She received a teacher’s certificate from Morningside College and taught in rural schools in Monona County. She married Daniel Hartigan June 21, 1932, in Oto. The couple farmed in the Ute vicinity and moved into town in 1953. She later worked as a postal clerk in the Ute Post Office and was a waitress at Barnes Café for several years.

Mrs. Hartigan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Rosary Society, Senior Citizens of Ute and formerly worked with the Boy Scouts.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Mary Jane) Collins of Sanford, Maine; three sons, Daniel Clair of Winston-Salem, N.C., Darrell of Firestone, Colo. and Michael of Omaha, Nebr.; a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Dorothy) Pritchard of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 1987, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ute. The Rev. William Wingert officiated. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery.
