MERRILL F. STRUBLE

Merrill F. Struble, 91, of Turin, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 28, 1987, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa after a long illness.

He was born January 29, 1896, in Jordan Township, Monona County, Iowa, to George Francis and Lorinda Elma (Morton) Struble. On February 26, 1919, he married Ruby Amundson in rural Soldier. He was a lifetime area farmer. Ruby and Merrill spent many winters down south. She died October 21, 1981, at Onawa.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Onawa.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Leon (Rosemary) Newkirk of Sergeant Bluff; three sons, Glenn of San Clemente, Calif., Russell of Castana and Marvin of Turin; two brothers, Park of Onawa and Everett of Castana; one sister, Mrs. Wreath Peterson of Onawa; 24 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Doyle, died July 28, 1984, and Cleo was killed on September 27, 1943, in World War II; and two brothers, Charles and Joy.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 1987, in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Onawa, with Elder Francis Hathaway officiating. Mrs. Jack Jordan, the organist, accompanied the congregation in singing “The Old, Old Path”. LeAnn Laughlin played a flute solo.

Honorary Bearers were Herbert Johnston, Raymond Nelson, Walter Mikkelson, George Quigley, Levi Harms, Glenn Martindale, W. E. McCall and Herald Fredrickson.

Active Bearers were Duane Fredrickson, Myrlin Lee, Vern Angrove, Burdette Madsen, Paul Petersen, Jr. and Richard Madsen, Sr.

Interment was in Jordan Township Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
