LILLIAN AUGUSTA LOFSHULT CARLSON

Lillian Augusta Lofshult Carlson, 85, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Sloan, Iowa, died Sunday, October 18, 1987, in Dallas, Texas.

She was born February 3, 1902, at Sloan to Gustav and Mary (Lindberg) Lofshult. On August 3, 1932, she married George R. Carlson in Sloan. The couple moved to San Antonio in 1948. Mr. Carlson died in November 1951 in San Antonio. She received a bachelor’s degree from Morningside College in 1922 and taught in Emerson, Mapleton and Logan schools. She received a master’s degree from Trinity University in San Antonio in 1953 and taught at Northeast High School in San Antonio for four years and San Antonio College for 10 years, retiring in 1972. She then taught in the LIFT Program.

While still living in Sloan, she was Sunday School Superintendent of the Congregational Church in Sloan, served as president of the Sloan School Board and assisted in founding the Sloan Library. She attended Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church in San Antonio.

Survivors include: two sons, Bob and Tom and their wives, all of Dallas; five grandchildren, Laura, Lynn, Krista, Holly and John; and three great grandchildren, Eric, age 3 and twins, Monica and Rachelle, age 2.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 1987, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Albaton, Iowa, with Rev. Russell Sizemore officiating. The pianist was Mrs. Herbert Peterson and the vocalists, Rev, and Mrs. Earl Miller sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Children of the Heavenly Father”.

Honorary Bearers were Frank Weedin and Milton McFarland.

Casket Bearers were Lloyd Lindberg, Tony Swanson, John Lofshult, William Lofshult, Arthur Swanson and Milton Anderson.

Interment was in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.

A memorial has been established in her name with Alzheimer’s Disease Research.
