FREELAND G. UTTERBACK

Freeland G. Utterback, 81, of Castana, Iowa, died Thursday, October 22, 1987, at Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa, Iowa.

He was born November 22, 1905, on a farm near Castana to Joseph E. and Estella (Bouslaugh) Utterback and attended Castana School. On July 23, 1927, he married Henrietta Mae Chase in Sioux City. She died January 11, 1985, at Onawa. He was a longtime farmer and had driven a school bus intermittently from 1937 to 1967 for the Castana School District. Since April 1, 1987, he had been a resident of Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa.

He was baptized in the Methodist Church in Castana.

Survivors include two sons, Gayland and Leeland, both of Castana; one sister, Mrs. Newton (Zella) Johnson of Sioux City; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 1987, at Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Jerry Quandt officiating. The organist was Mrs. Vince Phillips and the soloist, Rev. Jerry Quandt, sang “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Casket bearers were Robert Barker, Everett Knoff, Maurice Jensen, Donald McDonald, Ralph Wickersham and Willard Pixler.

Interment was in the Center Cemetery, Castana, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
