BETTE M. SWENSON

Bette M. Swenson, 66, of Soldier, Iowa, died Friday, October 9, 1987, at Bergan Mercy Care Center in Omaha, Nebraska, after a long illness.

She was born July 17, 1921, on a farm near Panama, Iowa, the youngest child of Fred and Malinda (Black) Baber. She lived with her family in Harlan, Denison, Arion and Dow City. After graduating from high school in Dow City, she received further education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. After college, she moved to Dunlap with her father and brother and taught in rural schools. On August 5, 1945, she was united in marriage with Isaac B. Swenson, Jr., and they farmed near Soldier until 1982.

In 1950 she joined the Soldier Lutheran Church and enjoyed participating in the Church groups and activities.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Linda) Heinen of Omaha and Mrs. Dennis (Judy) Schmidt of LeMars; six grandchildren; nieces; nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isaac, in 1982; two brothers, Virgil in 1965 and Delbert in infancy; and one sister, Geraldine, in 1976.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 1987, in the Soldier Lutheran Church at Soldier with Pastor Larry Sydow officiating. Mrs. Ivan Gibbs, the organist, accompanied the Men’s Quartet, Craig Swenson, Gordon Foss, Stan Hansen and Marc Clemon, in the selection “The Old Rugged Cross”. The congregation sang “How Great Thou Art”.

Bearers were Oscar Sandvold, Elvin Heistand, Glen Butler, Dennis Swenson, Clayton Swenson and Clifford Swenson.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Soldier Lutheran Church.
