RAY H. CRAIG, SR.

Ray H. Craig, Sr., 70, of Sloan, Iowa, died Sunday, September 20, 1987, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, following a long illness.

He was born February 17, 1917, near Salix, Iowa, the son of John Bessel Craig and Keturah Samantha Holdcroft Craig. He graduated from the Sloan High School in 1936. He was an Army veteran of World War II. On December 25, 1941, he married Frieda Schwarz in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

He worked for Wraybill Dehydrating Plant until 1962 and then was a tank truck driver for the Cereal Co-op in Sloan from 1962 until retiring in 1979.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife, Frieda, of Sloan; four sons, Ray Jr. of Sioux Falls, S.D., Fred of Madison, Wisc., Thomas of San Diego, Calif. and James of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Robert and Thomas, both of Sioux City and Arza of Phoenix; five sisters, Myrtle Boston of Elk Point, S.D., Cora Carnes and Opal Stanley, both of Sioux City and Dorothy Stanley and Margaret Paul, both of Sloan; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 1987, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa, with Rev. Paul Sieveking officiating. Mrs. Bonnie Rossman, the organist, accompanied the congregation in the singing of “I Am But A Stranger Here” and “Rock of Ages”.

Bearers were Randy Burns, Jeff Redmond, Roger Heinle, Bob Hogue, Mike Maureau and Dan Dean.

Interment was in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
