NELLIE IRENE WYLAND

Nellie Irene Wyland, 81, Onawa, Iowa, died September 24, 1987, at her home in Onawa after a long illness.

She was born June 24, 1906, at Lake Fork, Illinois, to Louis and Rena Mae (Brothers) Koehler. On April 2, 1925, she married Jacob Virgil Dewey Wyland at Lincoln, Illinois. The couple came to Onawa in 1926 where she owned and operated Nellie’s Wayside and Nellie’s Grocery Store and Restaurant. He died August 15, 1986, at Onawa.

She was a member of First Christian Church at Onawa.

Survivors include: four sons, Leo of St. Joseph, Mo., Vernon of Philadelphia, Penn., Wayne of Omaha, Nebr. and Rex of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Aloha) South of Onawa and Mrs. Leo (Arvilla) Altemeir of Grinnell; one brother, Orville Koehler of Mount Pulaski, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Virgil; two sisters; and five brothers.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 1987, at the Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. The organist, Mrs. Vince Phillips played “How Great Thou Art”.

Casket bearers were Lester Skarin, Adair Kaehlar, Jimmy Adams, Tim Wyland, Cary Steward and Jack Adams.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
