DONALD EVERETT EWING

Donald Everett Ewing, 50, of Onawa, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 5, 1987, near Turin, Iowa, as a result of a one-car accident.

He was born September 16, 1936, at Onawa, the son of Lawrence Everett Ewing and Grace Tonetta Docken Ewing. He graduated from Onawa Public High School. On May 26, 1957 he married Hope Archer at Onawa.

He served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He owned and operated Don Ewing Advertising in Onawa.

He was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Onawa and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eagles Aerie #2270, Amateur Trap Shooting Association and was a many-time member of the All American Trap Team. He was inducted into the Iowa Trap Shooting Hall of Fame.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Kimberly) Johnson of El Toro, Calif., and Jody Burgess, Mrs. Steve (Lori) Mathes and Kysa Ewing, all of Onawa; a son, Brett, of Onawa; a brother, Denzil, of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Shirley) Hogue of Harlan and Mrs. Don (JoAnn) Solberg of Moorhead; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 1987, at Faith Lutheran Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Quentin Quanbeck officiating. The organist, Mrs. Syril Brown, played “My Way”.

Active casket bearers were Dan Hyatt, Jim McKneely, Bernard Farber, Dan Webster, Ralph Bean and Larry Mings.

Honorary casket bearers were William Chapman, Dr. Vernon Helt, Gene Sears, Gene Morrissey, Charles Cannon, III and Dean Johnson.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
