Onawa Democrat, Onawa, (Monona), Iowa, 10 Sep 1987:

Floyd Jay Baker, 82, Whiting, Iowa, Passed away at his home in Whiting on Tuesday, September 1, 1987.

He was born July 13, 1905, near Whiting to William and Myra (Hileman) Baker. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Missouri River bayou by the Christian church minister from Whiting. He chose farming as his occupation and farmed near Whiting all his life. He was a kind and loving husband and father.

On September 14, 1935, he was married to Ada Funkhouser at Sioux City. To this union one daughter, Patsy Ann, was born.

He is survived by his wife, Ada, of Whiting and one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Patsy) Madison of Sioux City; four grandsons; two granddaughters; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bertha; and four brothers, Arthur, Elmer, Jess and Ray.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 4, 1987, at the Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. The organist was Mrs. Jack Jordan and the soloist, Mrs. Arnold Brenden, sang “In the Garden” and “Going Home”.

Casket bearers were Gary Fletcher, Terry Fletcher, Shane Madison, Tom Madison, Glen Olson and Keith Rimmer.

Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
