HARRY “OAKIE” WEIBLING

Harry “Oakie” Weibling, Whiting, Iowa, died Monday, August 31, 1987, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa after a brief illness.

He was born September 26, 1912, at Robinson, Kansas, to Harry and Elizabeth (Collins) Weibling, and grew up in Brown County, Kansas. On April 26, 1946, he married Claudine Colvin at Hiawatha, Kansas. The couple came to Whiting in 1946, where he was employed by Langren Grain Company for 22 years. The last two years he had been employed by the City of Whiting as custodian of the Whiting City Cemetery.

During World War II he served with the U.S. Army in Northern France and the Aleutian Islands.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Robinson, Kansas, and the Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2694.

Survivors include his wife, Claudine; one son, Dennis, of Omaha; one grandson, Jason; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 1987, in the Whiting Church of Christ with Evangelist Rusty Hedger officiating. Mrs. Arnold Brenden, the organist, played the selection “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Bearers were Garry Tucker, Lyle Mock, Bertel McCandless, Jack Hedrick, James Hedrick and Don Richardson.

Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery at Whiting, Iowa, with Military Graveside Rites by Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
