CLARA MONFELI

Clara B. Monfeli, 80, of Whiting, Iowa, died on August 9, 1987, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting following a long illness.

She was born in Monona County, Iowa, on February 9, 1907, the daughter of Harvey and Ella (Geron) Kirkpatrick. At a young age she moved to Chicago. She married Louis Monfeli on August 16, 1933, in Chicago. During World War II she worked at a hospital, then for a plastics factory and later was secretary of the Monfeli Sewer and Tile Company on Chicago. The couple moved to Onawa in 1975 and in 1977 they moved to Sloan. Mr. Monfeli died April 20, 1979, in Onawa.

Clara was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa.

She is survived by a son, Leonard Luers of Marissa, Ill.; four sisters, Mrs. Will (Anna) Lang of Whiting, Mrs. Ray (Etta) Allen of Chula Vista, Calif., Mrs. Cecil (Dorothy) King of Seattle, Wash. and Mrs. Willard (Margaret) Lawrence of Lynwood, Wash.; one brother, John of turner, Ore.; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 1987, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Onawa, Mass Celebrant Rev. Father R. P. Wieling. The organist, Mrs. Darrell Hewitt, accompanied Mr. Steven Johnson in the selections, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”.

Bearers were Lee Kirkpatrick, Rusty Kirkpatrick, Neil Kirkpatrick, Larry Kirkpatrick, Gilbert Smith and Paul Benjamin.

Interment was in Belvidere Cemetery at Turin, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
