GEORGE E. BURNS

George E. Burns, 68, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Little Sioux, died on Tuesday, July 14, 1987, in the Veterans Hospital in Omaha following a long illness.

He was born near Little Sioux on July 19, 1918, the son of Fred and Elizabeth M. House Burns. He attended rural school near River Sioux. He formerly was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad with the track maintenance crew. He had been a resident of Council Bluffs since 1970 where he had been employed with Blue Star Foods.

Mr. Burns was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his sister, Mrs. Donald (Maggie) Hall of Little Sioux; six nephews; four nieces; ten great nieces; and one great nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Burns and Charles Douglas Burns.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, 1987, at Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Everett E. Epperson officiating. The hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Rock of Ages”.

Casket bearers were Jack Vipond, Jesse Peasley, Gene Conyers, Roy Breeling, Hugh Grimes and Estal Edmonds.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, Iowa, with Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
