WILLIAM A. IRISH

William A. Irish, Sloan, Iowa, died on Monday, July 13, 1987, in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa. He had reached the age of 80 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Born on May 8, 1907, in Omaha, Nebraska, he was the son of Robert Clemet Irish and Ona May Kidder Irish. He married Thelma Adams on December 20, 1935, in Sioux City. He had farmed and later was employed by the McCreary Saw Mill in Sergeant Bluff. He had been a resident of Sloan since 1949 where he was a gardener.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma, of Sloan; three daughters, Mrs. Dale (Carol) Bean, Joy Delle Chewning and Mrs. Gary (Shirley) Beedle, all of Onawa; two brothers, Paul of Cherokee and Dick of Sioux City; six sisters, Mrs. Claudia Ericksen of Hornick, Miss Vivian Irish of Salix, Mrs. Bill (Fern) McCall of Castana, Mrs. Neil (Betty) Grimsley of Tomahawk, Wisc., Mrs. William (Rosalie) Torticill of Onawa and Mrs. Donna Critelli of Dubuque; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clair, Clifford and Bob; a sister, Frances; and an infant daughter, Joan.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 1987, at the Wood Funeral Chapel in Sloan with Rev. Ralp Stone officiating. Mrs. Wilbur Ray, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Harold Nelson, who sang “This World Is Not My Home” and “In the Garden”.

Bearers were Wayne Ray, Bill McCall, William Torticill, Harry White, Virgil Parsley and Harold Nelson.

Interment was in the Sloan Cemetery with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
