GAYNOR K. RUNDQUIST

Gaynor K. Rundquist, Sloan, Iowa, died on Sunday July 12, 1987, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onaway following a long illness. Death came at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 28 days.

He was born at Royal, Nebraska, on August 14, 1917, the son of Arch and Rose (Widergren) Rundquist. He graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1934. On October 13, 1940 he was married to Melba Olsen in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove.

He taught at Mullen, Nebraska from 1940-1945, before moving to Sloan in 1946. He graduated from Morningside College in 1954. He taught at Sloan High School from 1946-1960, and was the girls’ basketball coach from 1948-1958. He received his Master’s degree in Earth Science in 1959 from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He attended numerous summer sessions at Iowa State University, Drake University, the University of Iowa and South Dakota State. He was a science teacher at East Junior High School in Sioux City from 1960 until his retirement in 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Melba of Sloan; two daughters, Mrs. William (Rosemary) Todd of Union, Nebr. and Mrs. Neil (Jeanne) Nelson of Takoma Park, Md.; two sons, Rex and Michael, both of Fairbanks, Alaska; a brother, Dean Rundquist of Orange, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 1987, at the United Congregational Church of Christ, Sloan, Iowa, with Rev. Arthur G. Hermanson officiating. The organist was Mrs. Glen Miltenberger. David Beckerdite sang “Friends” and Richard Servis sang, “Precious Lord” accompanied by Renae Servis.

Honorary Bearers were James Mann, Jerry Mann, Greg Rundquist, Tom Rundquist, Rex Rundquist and Michael Rundquist.

Casket Bearers were Jack Jones, Doug Conklin, Dale Thompson, Keith Sawin, Ed Buckholz and Scotty Reynolds.

Interment was in the Hope Cemetery, Newman Grove, Nebraska, at 3:00 p.m., July 16, 1987, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
