WILLIAM LUDLOW (BILL) SCOTT III

William Ludlow (Bill) Scott III, 72, of Waterbury, Nebraska, died on June 27, 1987, near Waterbury as a result of a tractor accident.

He was born in Nevada, Missouri, on November 17, 1914, the son of William Ludlow Scott II and Della Mae Sarver Scott. He moved with his parents to Iowa as a child and spent his youth in and around Climbing Hill. He entered the United States Army in 1934 and served until 1938. He married Frances Anna (Tess) Tesnohlidek on September 17, 1938, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. They had one son, William Joseph and a step-daughter, Sharlene.

In 1940, Bill was the Omaha World Herald’s Golden Glove Champion. In the late 1940’s he was the catcher on the Omaha City Softball Championship Team, Whitcomb’s Tavern. In 1948 he and his partner were the Omaha bowling champions in the doubles division.

He worked for Continental Bakery of Omaha for a number of years. They moved to Peoria, Illinois, where he was employed as a route salesman by Butternut Bakery for 10 years. They returned to Omaha where Bill operated various restaurants. He retired in 1982 and lived in Ithaca, Nebraska, for two years. In 1984 he moved to Waterbury, Nebraska.

He is survived by his former wife, Frances (Tess) Scott; his son, William Joseph Scott of Omaha, Nebr.; his stepdaughter, Sharlene Hamman of Omaha; two brothers, Darrel of Sacramento, Calif. and Walter of Salix, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. James (Waneta) McLarty of Oto, Ia. and Mrs. Robert (Darlene) DeLaughter of Worthington, Minn.; six grandchildren; and one great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother and sister, Wayne and Wanda; and a brother, Donald.

A memorial service was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 1987, at the Wood Funeral Chapel, Sloan, Iowa, with Rev. Walter Enstrom officiating. The organist was Mrs. Wilbur Ray and the soloist, Mrs. Howard Pope, sang “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”, “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

The bearer was Shel Scott, a grandson. Interment was in the West Fork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
