WILLIE P. “BILL” DUNCAN

Willie P. “Bill” Duncan, 89, Hornick, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 1, 1987, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, after a brief illness.

He was born August 26, 1897, at Lebanon, Missouri, to Fred and Addie (McAndrews) Duncan. On September 29, 1916, he married Flossie Schutt at Correctionville, Iowa. The couple moved to Hornick in 1932, where he owned and operated the Allis Chalmers Dealership and Repair Shop from 1934 until retiring in 1978. Mrs. Duncan died July 6, 1951, at Sioux City. He had been a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting since May 1982.

He was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church, Attica Lodge No. 502 A.F. & A.M. and Athena Chapter No. 460 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one brother, Charles of Tecumseh, Nebr.; two sisters, Mrs. Alberta Savage of California and Mrs. Addie Barber of Bronson, Ia.; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Flossie; and his son, William LeRoy “Buster”.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 1987, at the United Methodist Church in Hornick with Rev. Gary DeGeest officiating. Mrs. Orval Cox, the organist, accompanied the Men’s Quartet in the selections “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Masonic Services were conducted by Attica Lodge No. 502, A.F. & A.M. of Sloan, Gordon Swanson, Orator; Tony Swanson, Worshipful Master. Eastern Star Services were conducted by Athena Chapter No. 460, Order of the Eastern Star of Sloan, Jennette Clift, Worthy Matron and Robert “Bud” Clift, Worthy Patron.

Bearers were Ward Cleveland, Earl Miller, Ray Shupe, Eldred Loyd, Robert Kendall, Gerald Beckstrom and Dean Unkel.

Interment was in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
