Iva Lou Livengood Moore was born on July 23, 1925, in Braddyville, to Roy Mack and Ferne (Riley) Livengood. She passed from this life on Monday morning, Feb. 10, at Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center. Iva was 88 years old.

Iva was the second of seven children. The family moved to Castana when Iva was young and it was there she attended school. She married Earl Alden Moore on Nov. 11, 1942, at her mother’s home in Castana. She and Earl moved to the farm in rural Moorhead, where they raised their eight children.

Earl died in October of 2002. A year later, after living there for 61 years, Iva moved from the farm - first to an apartment in Onawa and then to an assisted living facility and eventually a nursing home - both of those in Cherokee, near her daughter, Hazel.

Iva loved her family. She also enjoyed her huge vegetable garden as well as her flower garden. She liked to read and to work jigsaw puzzles. In later years, she also worked word search puzzle books.

Iva is survived by her children: son, Roy (Shannon) Moore of Wellington, Fla., daughter, Hazel (Norris) Torbensen of Cherokee, sons, Richard “Butch” Moore of Moorhead, Keith (Cheryl) Moore of Mapleton, Everett (Beverly) Moore of Paw Paw, Mich., Jack (Cynthia) Moore of Liscomb, and daughter, Lisa (Steve) Petersen of Salix; along with 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Lucille Nelson of Concord, Neb., and brother, Earl Edward Livengood of Jackson, Neb., as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, daughter Kathy Sue Moore, and sisters Alice Callendar, Irene Hansen, Phyllis Helder and Leora Claus.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, at Moorhead Christian Church with Pastor Cynthia Moore and Pastor Jon Moore officiating. Burial followed in Jordan Township Cemetery near Soldier.

Music for the service included a recorded selection, “In The Garden,” and three congregational hymns: “How Great Thou Art,” “Rock of Ages” and “Amazing Grace” with Conni Anderson serving as organist.

Pallbearers were Roy Moore, Keith Moore, Everett Moore, Jack Moore, Steve Petersen and Norris Torbensen. Honorary pallbearers were Richard E. Moore, Gary Moore, Rick Moore and Brad Moore.

Visitation was Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and the family greeted friends from 6-8 p.m. at Root Funeral Home in Onawa.

Root Funeral Homes in Onawa provided professional services.
