DOROTHY LOUISE WARREN

Dorothy Louise Warren, 82, Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Little Sioux, Iowa, died June 8, 1987, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.

She was born May 25, 1905, in Pittsboro, North Carolina, to James A. and Harriet M. (Rumsey) Perley. In 1911, she moved to Little Sioux along with her parents, sisters and brother, where she graduated from Little Sioux High School in 1923. She then attended Iowa State College at Ames for one year and Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa, for two years. After college, Dorothy taught at Washout Country School near River Sioux and Murray Hill School near Little Sioux, and later in life taught at Modale Grade School in Modale.

On December 31, 1927, she married Harley LeRoy Warren, at her parents’ farm near Little Sioux. They settled on a farm just north of Little Sioux where they lived all of their married life until moving into Onawa in 1983. Harley died November 24, 1984, in Onawa.

Dorothy was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church at Little Sioux where she was active in the United Methodist Women and was a Past President, and was a member of the Little Sioux Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star (O.E.S) Chapter #330, where she served in various offices including Past Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Fountain Bleau Study Club, and loved to play Canasta with the local ladies in Little Sioux and Pisgah.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Catherine Louise) Carey of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mrs. Glenn (Patricia Ann) Heisterkamp of Onawa; two sons, Harley J. Warren of Lakewood, Colo. and Richard Lee Warren of Omaha, Nebr.; one brother, James A. Perley of Little Sioux, Ia.; three sisters, Harriet L. Perley and Mrs. Sadie Wallis, both of Little Sioux, Ia. and Mrs. Frederick (Norma R.) Beekman of San Antonio, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harley L.; and one grandson, Thomas Lee Heisterkamp.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 1987, at the United Methodist Church, Little Sioux, Iowa, with Rev. Leon Wallace officiating. The organist, Mr. J. L. Moad, played “Ivory Palaces” and “In The Garden”.

Casket bearers were Darrel Parks, William Hunter, Edmond McDaniel, Conley Little, Lowell McCracken and Roger Harl.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, Iowa, with Eastern Star Graveside Services by Queen Esther Chapter #222, Onawa, Iowa, Barbara Taylor, Worthy Matron and Larry Taylor, Worthy Patron. Arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
